Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2, 2026
PriceOtter (the "App", "we", or "us") is a shopping companion that tracks prices for items you add to your wishlists and notifies you when prices drop. This policy describes what information we collect, why we collect it, and who we share it with. The App is operated by Quirence, Inc.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up, we store your email address, display name, and the sign-in provider you used (email/password, Sign in with Apple, or Google Sign-In). Authentication tokens are managed via AWS Cognito. We do not store your password; password hashing is handled by Cognito.
Wishlist and tracking data
For every product you track we store the product URL, retailer, product name, images, your target price (if you set one), and the wishlist it belongs to. We record the price history observed by our price-tracking service so we can show you graphs and notify you of drops.
Device and push-notification data
To deliver price-drop and target-reached push notifications we store a device identifier, platform (iOS or Android), and the push token issued by Apple Push Notification service (APNs) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). You can disable push at any time from the app's notification settings or your device settings.
Chat with Otter (AI)
When you chat with our AI shopping assistant, your messages and Otter's responses are stored so the conversation has context and so we can review responses that you report as inappropriate. Reports you submit on Otter messages include the message text, your reason (inappropriate, inaccurate, harmful, or spam), and any optional notes you provide.
Usage, performance, and crash data
We collect anonymized analytics events (screen views, feature taps) via Firebase Analytics, and crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics, to improve the app. On iOS we honor your App Tracking Transparency choice; we do not track you across other apps or websites.
What we do not collect
- Payment card numbers. The App does not accept payment — purchases happen on the retailer's site. We never see your card details.
- Precise location. The App does not request location permission.
- Contacts, photos, microphone, or camera. The App does not request access to these.
How we use your information
- To operate the price-tracking service and deliver notifications you've asked for.
- To personalize your wishlist views and Otter chat responses.
- To develop and improve our recommendations, search ranking, and Otter, using de-identified or aggregated forms of your activity.
- To investigate bug reports, crashes, and reports of inappropriate AI output.
- To detect abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms.
- To comply with legal obligations.
Third-party services
We use the following processors. Each has its own privacy policy governing the data it handles on our behalf:
- AWS Cognito — authentication and session management (privacy)
- Google Firebase — Cloud Messaging, Analytics, and Crashlytics (privacy)
- Apple Push Notification service — iOS push delivery (privacy)
- Google Cloud Platform — backend hosting and database (privacy)
- Google Sign-In / Sign in with Apple — identity providers you may choose at sign-up
- Channel3 — affiliate link routing for retailer handoff
AI and model training
We take a privacy-forward approach to AI:
- Our cloud and AI providers do not train their models on your data. Otter and our backend services run on Google Cloud and Vertex AI. Under our agreements with Google, your prompts, chat messages, and other customer data are not used to train Google's foundation models. Vertex AI may briefly retain prompts for abuse detection (typically up to 24 hours) but does not use that data for training.
- We may train our own models on de-identified or aggregated signals — for example, co-occurrence patterns ("people who tracked Item A also tracked Item B"), anonymized search queries, and click-through behavior — to improve recommendations, ranking, and Otter. Training inputs do not include your name, email, or other directly identifying account information.
- We do not train models on the raw text of your Otter chat conversations. If we ever change this, we will update this policy and give you a clear opt-out before doing so. Reported messages may be reviewed by our team to improve safety and reduce abuse, as described in our Terms.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the processors listed above, with law enforcement if compelled by valid legal process, and with a successor entity in the event of a merger or acquisition. Aggregate, de-identified usage statistics may be published for product research.
Data retention
We keep account, wishlist, and chat data for as long as your account is active. Crash reports and raw analytics events are retained for up to 90 days. Push-notification logs are retained for up to 180 days for debugging. When you delete your account (see below), we remove your personal data from our primary systems within 30 days; backups are purged on their rolling schedule.
Your rights
You can:
- Access or export your data by emailing [email protected].
- Delete your account from inside the app: Profile → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your wishlists, chat history, device registrations, and profile.
- Correct errors in your profile at any time from the Profile screen.
- Opt out of analytics on iOS by denying the App Tracking Transparency prompt. Crash reporting can be disabled from your device's per-app settings.
- Turn off notifications in the app's notification settings or your OS-level settings.
California residents
If you are a California resident, you have the rights described above plus the right to know what personal information we have collected and to request its deletion under the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not "sell" personal information as defined by the CCPA.
International users
Our servers are located in the United States. By using PriceOtter outside the U.S., you consent to the transfer of your information to the U.S. for processing.
Children
PriceOtter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted by updating the "Last updated" date above; significant changes will also be surfaced in the app.
